Quit Porn – “Shoo” the Shaitan Away

Let me first tell you “What to Do” and then I will tell you “Why you should do it”.

What do I do?

  • Read the following Quranic Formula in a slow and relaxed way until you can comprehend it deeply.

A’oodhu Billaahi min al-Shaytaan ir-rajeem

(I seek refuge with Allaah from the accursed Shaytaan).

  • First feel the insecurity caused by the attacks of Shaytaan. He constantly whispers and instigates us to disobey Allah.
  • Feel happy and have hope as well as fear when Allah is mentioned.
  • Feel what you are saying and why you are saying it.
  • Do this for few minutes everyday.
  • And the next time you are triggered sexually, when you think of watching porn and masturbating, say “A’oodhu Billaahi min al-Shaytaan ir-rajeem (I seek refuge with Allaah from the accursed Shaytaan)” with all the feelings of security and hope from Allah.
  • Inshallah you will feel the effect.

Why do I do it?

If you ever get the time to deconstruct your porn relapses, you will find out that each and every relapse started as a thought. You saw something, you heard something or you touched something which in turn triggered a thought in your mind which in turn started a train of thoughts.

The first thought that you had, was a Waswasa (The Whisperings of Shaytan) from Shaytan. If you could, somehow, gotten rid of this first thought, you would have saved yourself from the porn trap each and every time.

I always say that a porn relapse is like a domino and the first thought that you have after you are triggered by something sexual is the first piece of the domino. If you can save your first piece from falling, you have saved yourself from the Cycle of Shame.

Everyday, you will get hundreds of thoughts about Porn, Masturbation, Sex, Drugs and a host of other sins. If you do not stop/change them and if you act on them, you are sure to be lost from the straight path.

Every thought is like a seed which produces other seeds of similar nature. So, you don’t have to worry about controlling the hundreds of thoughts, you just need to destroy that one thought, that one seed which left on its own will produce a hundred more seeds.

Ward off the passing thought, for if you do not do that, it will become an idea. Ward off the idea, for if you do not do that it will become a desire. Then fight it, for if you do not do that it will become a resolve and ambition, and if you do not ward it off it will become an action. If you do not counter it with its opposite, it will become a habit, and then it will be difficult for you to get rid of it.

Allah said,

Indeed, Satan is an enemy to you; so take him as an enemy. He only invites his party to be among the companions of the Blaze. [35:6]

O children of Adam, let not Satan tempt you as he removed your parents from Paradise, stripping them of their clothing to show them their private parts. Indeed, he sees you, he and his tribe, from where you do not see them. Indeed, We have made the devils allies to those who do not believe. [7:27]

And He gave a FORMULA to stop the whisperings of the Shaytaan.

He said,

And if an evil suggestion comes to you from Satan, then seek refuge in Allah. Indeed, He is Hearing and Knowing. Indeed, those who fear Allah – when an impulse touches them from Satan, they remember [Him] and at once they have insight. [7:200-201]

Repel, by [means of] what is best, [their] evil. We are most knowing of what they describe. And say, “My Lord, I seek refuge in You from the incitements of the devils, And I seek refuge in You, my Lord , lest they be present with me.” [23:96-98]

And if there comes to you from Satan an evil suggestion, then seek refuge in Allah. Indeed, He is the Hearing, the Knowing. [41:36]

So when you recite the Qur’an, [first] seek refuge in Allah from Satan, the expelled [from His mercy]. Indeed, there is for him no authority over those who have believed and rely upon their Lord. His authority is only over those who take him as an ally and those who through him associate others with Allah. [16:98-100]

From all the Ayahs above, we can easily conclude that Isti’adhah [A’oodhu Billaahi min al-Shaytaan ir-rajeem (I seek refuge with Allaah from the accursed Shaytaan)] entails seeking Allah’s help and acknowledging His ability to do everything. The Isti’adhah also affirms the servant’s meekness, weakness and inability to face the enemy of his inner evil, whom Allah alone, Who created this enemy, is able to repel and defeat. So, do Isti’adhah whenever Shaytaan whispers to you to indulge in watching porn and masturbate.

And remember,

And if you really want to be serious, do the following.
